Fear of judgement is stopping many of us from taking part in exercise. But as thousands of women up and down the country are proving, it really doesn’t have to.
This Girl Can is a celebration of the active women everywhere who are doing their thing no matter how they do it, how they look or even how sweaty they get.
It is a national campaign developed by Sport England and a wide range of partnership organisations to inspire more women and girls to become active, and conquer fear of judgement as the primary barrier.
In Birmingham, the City Council and Sport Birmingham will be planning to maximise the impact of the national campaign which launched on 12th January 2015.
A series of events and promotions will be planned on and around the 8th March, coinciding with International Women’s day, to reach into the communities of the city and get women and girls taking part in fun activities that improve their lives!
Remember…. Just 30minutes a day of moderate exercise can reduce your risk of developing breast cancer by 20%.
In order to support the local focus of the This Girl Can campaign, Birmingham City Council are opening a grant process for organisations to apply for funding of up to £500 to put on activities for women and girls. Activities can take place on 8th March, OR in the lead-up to, OR up to 1 month after 8th March.
The TGC Community Grants Pot will be open from Friday 16th January – Saturday 21st February.
