These services are aimed at supporting women who feel isolated, or have low self-esteem, to overcome barriers to their development. For example, the domestic violence project for Chinese women started in 1995 when W.A.I.T.S. was commissioned to conduct a research into the needs of women in the ethnic minority communities including the Chinese.

We provide culturally sensitive services, including:

  • One to one support
  • Advocacy & Advice
  • Safe Accommodation

The advocacy service is unique in that we accompany women to relevant agencies such as civil courts, solicitors, housing or refuges and advocate on their behalf. High standards of confidentiality are always maintained.

We offer a specialised service to women from the Chinese Community providing advocacy and support around issues relating to family matters. This service takes into account the unique cultural issues and barriers faced by Chinese women, and we also offers language support. This confidential service has led to women from the Chinese Community break down barriers that prevent them from accessing services and information.

Evergreen – Chinese Women’s Support Group

Evergreen is a Support Group which started in 1999 organised and supported by WAITS. Over the years, the group received personal development training to build up confidence, so that members are more able to take control of their own lives.

Evergreen is a self help group. Its members are Chinese women and children that were victims of domestic violence. Despite the language barriers, they have gradually developed from being the ones looking for help, support and sympathy to a group keen on playing a role in family life education.
