Community Integration Project

Sharyn Tulloch – Community Integration Project
Formerly ‘The Women’s Resettlement Project’ this initiative started 0n 6th September 2010

The project aims are to demonstrate the benefits of early intervention and support for women from minority and ethnic backgrounds to resettle back into their communities, without further unnecessary disruption, while identifying gaps in the service provision currently being offered.

The project also involves working from Drakes Hall prison one day per week supporting the existing activities already in place. But the emphasis will be around supporting females from BME groups and offering tailored workshops to provide women an opportunity to explore challenges which they may encounter in relation to their cultural differences.

With interagency support, while continuing to link into other service providers. External agencies will provide support around the needs of this specific client group, such as housing and accommodation needs, benefit and debt advice. Advocacy support will be offered around the use of substances, mental health issues, probation and education.

Working within the Sandwell boroughs and the city of Birmingham, the project will assist in the reintegration of BME women on release from custody and help those at risk of offending settle back into the community.
