2020 is almost gone, some of us are left thinking where has the year gone. For others we have had to deal with a roller coaster of events from births to deaths, and coping with the effects of the pandemic on our professional and personal lives has not been easy.

At WAITS we have risen to the challenges 2020 has thrown up at us. Our amazing team remained committed and passionate to keep on supporting women, and have worked throughout Lockdown 1 and 2 and in-between, to provide much needed domestic abuse support, counselling, and refuge accommodation. This was done while working from home and managing home schooling and family life.

We supported women with food deliveries and grants to help with white goods and furniture. Isolation led loneliness and the temptation to return to abusers. To meet this need we recruited volunteers for our befriender services.

This year we opened the Iona 4 refuge and launched our Volunteer & Influencing Project (VIP). Look out for news on our volunteer programme and our campaigns around women’s rights, CEDAW (Convention on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women), Shadow report to the United Nations.

We could not end the year without saying a big thank you to the Friends of WAITS, our volunteers, and donors who have given their time, food, toiletries, and clothes. To our sponsors who have helped us raise much needed funds to deliver our services. Through sponsored walks and events such as ‘A Date with Death’ Murder Mystery night.

Without you we would not be able to deliver our holistic services that cater for the practical and emotional needs of our clients.

We will have normal working hours between the Bank Holidays, 9am till 5pm. If you need a chat, help or refuge call our office number 0121 440 1443 and select from the options.

Happy Christmas, wishing you a happy and health and prosperous New year.
