Many kind and generous people, committed to tackling domestic violence and its associated impacts, give their time to WAITS in a variety of ways. These include service and governance volunteers, mentors, businesses' and pro bono contributions, and others.

Services volunteers

"Making a difference"

Our Volunteers are kind and generous people who commit their time and skills to tackling domestic abuse and its associated impacts. Our Volunteers are our Trustees, Befrienders, Friends of WAITS, Social Media Officers and many more, and we are appreciative of all their hard work and dedication.


Volunteers will work mainly with women from low income and disadvantaged groups who come from a wide range of social and cultural backgrounds.


WAITS is keen to develop volunteering opportunities around the specific interests of each individual however there is always a need for committed volunteers to assist in any of the areas listed below.


Event volunteers – Marketing Editor/ Graphic Designer: contributing to the production of literature for the website, magazine, newsletters and media articles


Counsellors – Qualified with a willingness to commit to long term.


Fundraisers – organising events, Bag packers


We also welcome office administrators, workshop facilitators and befrienders.

What you could do...


Become a peer mentor: Use your listening and empathy skills to support women through some of the hardest experiences they go through. You will receive in-depth training on how to deliver a top quality service, and the opportunity to help women at times of crisis. Additionally, you will have a chance to hone your professional support skills.


Become an admin assistant: Use your organisation and IT skills to support our hard working team! You will receive in-depth training on how to use our database, hone a professional telephone manner, and help us to arrange meetings, conferences and training.

Since its inception in 1993, WAITS has supported hundreds of women with a variety of complex needs. We provide high quality support and interventions via three key services:


Transition Support Service – supporting women affected by domestic abuse; through advocacy, counselling and securing accommodation


Community Integration Project – supporting women at risk of offending and or offending to resettle into the community


Women’s Refuges – WAITS provides safe accommodation and support to women fleeing domestic abuse


Our vision is to create a future where all women are empowered to make positive change. Our services which incorporate cutting edge approaches to tackle issues such as domestic abuse and offending.


We welcome new trustees to strengthen our board and develop and grow the charity alongside the management team. We would like to hear from you if you have excellent communication skills, an ability to understand complex issues, are self-motivated, can work on your own initiative and are willing to share knowledge and skills.
