WAITS IWD 2015

International Women’s Day is always an important event in the calendar of any organisation that supports women. This year, WAITS has had a special reason to celebrate with our #WAITS4Women Campaign and High Tea fundraiser.

The Event Report

Women Acting in Today’s Society (WAITS) supports over 300 Domestic Abuse survivors and their children annually.

Our staff support women to report their abuse to police, support mothers in child custody cases, we provide refuge accommodation for women fleeing Domestic Abuse and provide counselling to women in need of emotional support.

We also work to empower women from BAME communities, giving them the knowledge and confidence they need to achieve their potential.

We’re very passionate about what we do for our women, but we do not often get the chance to shout about it. The #WAITS4Women campaign was our way of raising awareness of what we’re about.

In particular, we wanted to highlight our Domestic Abuse Transition Support Project which has already supported 42 women since December.

In the run up to and just after International Women’s Day, the following took place:

  • Super Sharers across Twitter and Facebook shared our updates, boosting our followers and likes to 336 and 172 respectively (don’t forget to check us out: @WAITSAction or search WAITS on Facebook) if you want to donate.

  • 40 Women attended our High Tea & Pamper Day on the 12th March, 11 volunteers from the Evergreen Chinese Support Group took part raising a grand total of £276.60, £213 at the High Tea & Pamper day alone. Monies raised will go towards soft furnishing at our refuge

  • One of our trustees raised over £50.00 by holding a homemade Cup Cake sale at the Chamber of Commerce

Thank you to everyone who shared, supported and took part in these activities. It’s great to know how much support we have out there and are already looking forward to a 2016 International Women’s Day campaign.
